IMU Mumbai Port Campus Participates in Day of the Seafarer 2026 Celebrations
Indian Maritime University (IMU), Mumbai Port Campus actively participated in the Day of the Seafarer 2026 celebrations organised by the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee in association with the Directorate General of Shipping on 25 June 2026 at the MPHI Auditorium, Mumbai. The event was held under the global theme, "Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks."
A contingent of 23 Post Sea candidates, accompanied by faculty members, represented the campus at the event, which honoured the invaluable contribution of seafarers to global trade and maritime safety. The programme featured keynote addresses by eminent maritime leaders, a panel discussion on the theme, felicitation of meritorious seafarers, and cultural performances.
The event brought pride to IMU Mumbai Port Campus with multiple recognitions for academic excellence. The following Post Sea candidates received Certificates of Appreciation from the NMDC for securing the highest marks in the respective Certificate of Competency Examinations – 2025:
• Mr. George Santhacruz Anish (NWKO – NCV) received the Certificate of Appreciation for securing the highest marks in the Navigational Watch Keeping Officer (NCV) Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.
• Mr. Sachin Rajan (Master NCV) received the Certificate of Appreciation for securing the highest marks in the Master NCV Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.
• Mr. Mohammed Sajid (Chief Mate NCV Phase II) was recognised for securing the highest marks in the Chief Mate NCV Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.
Additionally, Cadet Sananda Nath, a first-year B.Tech cadet, was recognised for securing the highest marks in IMUCET 2025 (B.Tech category) and was honoured with the MASSA Educational Grant for her outstanding academic achievement.
International Day of Yoga – Yoga Sangam 2026 Celebrated at IMU Mumbai Port Campus
IMU-MPC celebrated the International Day of Yoga – Yoga Sangam 2026 with enthusiastic participation from officers, faculty, staff, and cadets. The programme was organised in line with the Ministry of AYUSH guidelines to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle across the campus.
As part of the celebrations, awareness sessions on Yoga and Stress Managementand an essay competition on the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" were conducted prior to International Day of Yoga, encouraging participants to understand the significance of yoga and express their perspectives on its role in healthy living.
On 21 June 2026, the celebration commenced with the assembly of participants at the LBS Multipurpose Hall. A Common Yoga Protocol Session was conducted under the supervision of the campus faculty, during which participants performed yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation practices
Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day at IMU-MPC
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a tree plantation drive was organized at Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus (IMU-MPC) on 5 June 2025. The initiative was led by the Campus Director (I/c) Capt. S.C. Panigrahy, along with faculty members and staff of the campus.
Saplings were planted within the campus premises to promote environmental awareness and strengthen the commitment towards sustainability and a greener future. The participants enthusiastically took part in the activity and highlighted the importance of environmental conservation through collective action.
The programme reflected IMU-MPC’s continued efforts towards creating an eco-friendly campus environment and encouraging responsible environmental practices among the university community.
International Day for Women in Maritime 2026
Representatives from Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus participated in the “International Day for Women in Maritime 2026” programme held on 18 May 2026 at Maritime Training Institute, organised by the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee. The Chief Guest of the event was Shri Sushil Mansing Khopde, IPS, Additional Director General of Shipping. A total of 17 girl cadets from the campus attended the programme, which focused on the theme “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality.”
The event featured insightful panel discussions, presentations, cultural programmes, and interactive sessions highlighting women’s participation, inclusion, and retention in the maritime sector. The initiatives undertaken by the Ministry and Directorate General of Shipping to enhance women representation in maritime were widely appreciated and served as a source of motivation for young cadets.
Cadet Kashvi Rana from IMU-MPC was one of the award nominees in the B.Tech Marine Engineering category, which was a matter of pride and encouragement for the institution and cadets.
The programme also showcased the “Sagar Mein Samman” initiatives and the release of “Samudra Lehar,” both of which were well received by the participants. An engaging interaction was held with Dr. Kusum Kanwar, who expressed interest in conducting a Gender Sensitivity session for cadets in the future to promote awareness and inclusivity among aspiring maritime professionals.
Parliamentary Committee on Official Language Inspects IMU Mumbai Port Campus
The Committee of Parliament on Official Language conducted a high-level inspection of the Indian Maritime University Mumbai Port Campus on 13-15 May 2026 in Pune, alongside reviews of other Central Government departments and institutions.
The inspection focused on the progressive implementation of Hindi as the Official Language (Rajbhasha) in administrative and academic activities. The Committee reviewed various initiatives undertaken by the university to promote the effective use of Hindi in official communication and institutional functioning.
The delegation was led by Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Convener of the First Sub-Committee, along with other distinguished Members of Parliament.
Representatives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways included Smt. Priti Nath, Senior Economic Adviser, and Smt. Sangeeta Topno, Deputy Director (Rajbhasha).
The IMU delegation comprised Dr. Rajoo Balaji, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IMU Headquarters; Shri K. Saravanan, Registrar, IMU Headquarters; and Capt. Sunil Chand Panigrahy, Director (i/c), IMU Mumbai Port Campus.
During the inspection, the Committee appreciated the university’s efforts towards implementing the Official Language Policy and provided valuable guidance for further strengthening the use of Rajbhasha in the maritime education sector. The university reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Hindi while continuing to uphold excellence in global maritime education and training.
Singapore Maritime Week 2026
Representatives from Indian Maritime University participated in Singapore Maritime Week 2026 held in Singapore from 20–24 April 2026. The IMU delegation included RAdm Amit Bose, Dr. S. Thangalakshmi, Cadet Shruti Narasimhan and Cadet Mohd Emaad Khan.
Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore under the theme “Actions Meet Ambition,” the event brought together global maritime leaders, policymakers, researchers, technology innovators, professionals and students to discuss the future of the maritime industry. The IMU team attended conferences, panel discussions, exhibitions and networking sessions focused on decarbonisation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous shipping, alternative fuels and resilient supply chains.
The delegation also visited National University of Singapore and Singapore Institute of Technology to explore opportunities for academic collaboration, student exchange and joint research initiatives. At SIT’s Future Ship & System Design Lab, the team gained exposure to advanced research in digital ship design, autonomous systems, hybrid propulsion technologies and maritime simulation platforms.
The participation provided faculty members and cadets with valuable international exposure and insights into emerging maritime technologies, industry expectations and future career pathways. The visit further strengthened IMU’s commitment to innovation, global collaboration and future-ready maritime education.
Changing Tides '26 — Panel Discussion at SIMTI Khopoli
IMU MPC participates in "Navigating the Future – Innovation, Technology, and Geopolitical Shifts in the Maritime Industry"
IMU Navi Mumbai Campus (MPC), in partnership with Seven Islands Maritime Training Institute (SIMTI), Khopoli, co-hosted a landmark panel discussion event on 24 April 2026. Shri Hare Ram Hare, Faculty, Marine Engineering, IMU MPC, participated as a panelist in Panel Discussion-1: “Fuel Transition – Future Fuels: Hype or Hope?” The event brought together faculty experts and student leaders to deliberate on the evolving landscape of global shipping, green technologies, and maritime geopolitics.
World Earth Day 🌍 – Essay Writing Competition
On the occasion of World Earth Day on 22nd April 2026, Ecoquest – the Environmental Club of IMU-MPC- organised an essay writing competition to encourage cadets to reflect on pressing environmental concerns and the balance between progress and sustainability.
Topic: “Is Development Worth the Destruction of Nature?”
On 17th April 2026, the Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus, conducted the Passing Out Ceremony for the final year cadets, marking the successful completion of their training and their transition into professional careers. The ceremony marked the passing out of the 10th batch of B.Tech Marine Engineering and the 40th batch of PGDME. The event was successfully facilitated under the guidance of HoD Incharge Shri Hare Ram Hare.
The ceremony was graced by Capt. Ashwini, General Manager – Fleet Personnel Department at Shipping Corporation of India, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Rajnish Mehta, Deputy General Manager – Fleet Personnel Department, as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony featured the presentation of awards and mementos to the graduating batch. The Academic Excellence Awards and the Best Girl Cadet Award were presented to cadets for their outstanding performance and dedication, with the recipient of the Best Girl Cadet Award also being honoured with the MSC Rolling Trophy with 10k cash prize. Visit of PCL (Shipping) Private Limited to IMU Mumbai Port Campus – 10 April 2025
Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus, hosted PCL (Shipping) Private Limited for a campus recruitment drive on 10th April 2025. The initiative was intended to provide placement opportunities for cadets and enhance institute–industry engagement.
The recruitment process was conducted by a panel of three company representatives: Capt. Prasad Gore, General Manager – Commercial & Operations; Mr. Kelvin Chew, Head – Human Resource (SEA); and Mr. Mukul Bhargava, General Manager – Human Resource (Sea).
The selection comprised a Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by personal interviews assessing technical competency, aptitude, and overall suitability.
The event was successfully coordinated under the guidance of Placement In-charge Shri Hare Ram Hare, with support from Shri P. K. Gopalkrishna.
IMU Students’ Educational Visit to New Delhi – Amrit Udyan Winter Edition 2026.
A group of meritorious cadets from various campuses of Indian Maritime University participated in an enriching educational visit to New Delhi as part of the Amrit Udyan Winter Annual Edition 2026 .The visit was conducted under the guidance of faculty members and with the support of IMU Headquarters on 30th & 31st March 2026.
During the visit, students explored prominent historical landmarks, including Jantar Mantar, Raj Ghat, Red Fort, and India Gate, gaining valuable insights into India’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
The highlight of the programme was the visit to Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where students experienced the vibrant floral displays and horticultural excellence. The group also visited the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, an immersive museum showcasing the contributions of India’s Prime Ministers.
The visit provided a valuable platform for experiential learning, enhancing students’ understanding of national heritage, governance, and cultural diversity.
Establishment of BioGas Plant at IMU–MPC.
Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus (IMU–MPC) has taken a meaningful step towards sustainability with the establishment of a BioGas plant on campus with the support of DMET-MERI Ex Cadets Association (DMECA). This initiative features the advanced CHUGG Food Waste Treatment System, designed to process up to 75 kg of food waste per day.
The system efficiently converts organic waste into clean and renewable energy, while also producing useful by-products such as biogas and organic fertilizer. This not only helps in reducing waste but also promotes eco-friendly practices within the campus.
Beyond its environmental impact, the BioGas plant serves as a practical learning platform for cadets, offering hands-on exposure to modern waste-to-energy technologies. It reflects IMU–MPC’s commitment to responsible waste management and alignment with global sustainability goals.
This forward-looking initiative sets a strong example for institutional sustainability and inspires future efforts in green campus development.
The Grand Finale of the 63rd National Maritime Day Celebrations 2026 was held on 5th April 2026 at Bharat Ratnam Auditorium, organized by the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee. The event brought together eminent personalities from the maritime sector, industry leaders, academicians, and cadets from various maritime institutions.
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Nitesh Narayan Rane, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Fisheries & Ports Development, Government of Maharashtra, and the Guest of Honour, Shri Deepak Shetty, IRS, Former Secretary to GoI and DGS.
Cadets, Faculty and Staff of the Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus (IMU-MPC) actively participated in the event. They contributed significantly to the ceremonial proceedings and cultural programmes. A classical dance performance by an IMU-MPC cadet Sananda Nath was a highlight of the cultural segment, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and talent of the cadets.
As part of the 63rd National Maritime Day Celebrations (NMDC) 2026, a Blood Donation and Health Check-up Camp was successfully organized at the Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus (IMU–MPC) on 31st March 2026 with the support of Mumbai Port Trust Hospital. The initiative aimed to promote health awareness and encourage voluntary blood donation among the maritime community.
Cadets, staff, and faculty from the IMU-MPC enthusiastically participated in the DGS 10K marathon and cyclothon on 29th March 2026 at Prince's Dock MbPT, showcasing discipline, team spirit, and physical endurance. The Chief guest of the event was Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India. The run featured multiple categories, including a 10K timed run, 5K run, and a walkathon, encouraging participation across all age groups and fitness levels.
Baroda Achievers Award — FY 2025–26
Bank of Baroda organised the Baroda Achievers Award Ceremony on 17 March 2026 at the Campus Auditorium, M.E.R.I., Indian Maritime University — Mumbai Port Campus. Three cadets of IMU-MPC were felicitated with a cash award of Rs. 31,000/- each in recognition of their outstanding achievements during FY 2025–26:

PRAYAAN 7.0 Successfully Conducted at IMU – Mumbai Port Campus
PRAYAAN 7.0, the annual techno-cultural fest of the Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus, was successfully held on 6–7 March 2026. The two-day event brought together cadets and students from various institutions, providing a vibrant platform to showcase technical knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and competitive spirit.
The fest witnessed participation from 10 institutes, including Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy, Chandraban Sharma College, Ganpat University, IMU Kochi Campus, IMU Navi Mumbai Campus, Kirti M. Doongursee College, Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies, Seth GS Medical College, Training Ship Rahaman, and Wilson College.
A total of 11 events were organized across technical, cultural, and sports categories, such as Prayukti (Technical Paper Presentation), Chakravyuh (Gaming), Vimarsh (Think Tank), Pragyaan (Quiz), Abhinaya (Personality Event), Sangharsh (CrossFit), Kashti (RC Boat Race), Kalamkaar (Art Battle), Chalchitra (Short Film), Taal Tarang (Dance Battle), and Mridang (Battle of the Bands).
PRAYAAN 7.0 was supported by leading maritime industry partners including Anglo-Eastern Shipmanagement, Dynacom Tankers, The Great Eastern Shipping Company, Fleet Management Limited, IMEI, DMECA, EXMAR, AG Maritime, and Synergy Marine Group.
The festival concluded successfully, fostering innovation, collaboration, and healthy competition among participants while strengthening the bond between the maritime industry and the cadet community.
Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, Assistant Librarian (Selection Grade), Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus, successfully completed the In-Service Course for Senior Library Professionals conducted by the Institute of Secretariat Training & Management, New Delhi, from 16–20 February 2026. The programme covered key areas such as financial governance, policy drafting, AI applications in libraries, research data management, and leadership skills. The training has enhanced professional competencies and will support ongoing efforts to strengthen digital services, administrative efficiency, and research support at the University library.
Design Registration Granted for AI-Based Electric Scooter Battery Charging Device The innovative design titled “AI-Based Electric Scooter Battery Charging Device” has been granted industrial design registration under Class 13-02 as per the Designs Act, 2000 and Designs Rules, 2001. The design was developed by Dr. Abhimanyu K. Chandgude, Dr. S. Thangalakshmi, and Dr. A. Arun Premnath, Associate Professors at Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus. The innovation focuses on the novel external form and configuration of an intelligent battery charging device for electric scooters, supporting the advancement of clean energy technologies and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
Two faculty members from IMU Mumbai Port Campus, Capt. Amrick Singh Jaiswal and Dr. S. Thangalakshmi, participated in the Training of Trainers programme on “Stress – Understanding, Early Management and Coping” held in Mumbai from 22 to 24 January 2026. The programme was organized by the Directorate General of Shipping and conducted by the International Transport Workers’ Federation, bringing together participants from various Maritime Training Institutes.
The three-day training focused on understanding stress, developing practical coping strategies, and providing basic mental health support. Sessions covered stress identification, time management, sleep hygiene, resilience building, mindfulness, and psychological first aid. Interactive activities, group discussions, and guided relaxation exercises helped participants gain hands-on tools relevant to the maritime environment, especially for supporting seafarers’ well-being.
The program strengthened the participants’ capacity to promote mental health awareness and stress management practices among cadets and staff. The knowledge and skills gained will support IMU-MPC’s ongoing efforts to create a healthier and more supportive training environment.
Cadets, staff, and faculty members of IMU–Mumbai Port Campus came together on 30th January 2026 to pay Shradhanjali on Martyrs’ Day, honoring Mahatma Gandhi and the late Shri Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The gathering observed a solemn moment of silence as a mark of respect, remembering their contributions and sacrifices. The tribute ceremony reflected a deep sense of gratitude and national pride, reinforcing the values of service, responsibility, and unity among the campus community. The occasion served as a reminder to uphold the ideals of peace, integrity, and dedication in both personal and professional life
Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus marked India’s 77th Republic Day on 26 January with pride and enthusiasm, reflecting the spirit of unity and national service. The celebration began with the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem, in the presence of faculty, staff, cadets, and administrative members. The Campus Director (i/c), Capt. Sunil Chandra Panigrahy, addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of the Constitution, the value of discipline, and the vital role maritime professionals play in national development.
